About Black Cat Media
At Black Cat Media, we develop simple, highly accessible modern web sites designed with the latest internet standards firmly in mind. We also specialize in the development of custom built database driven sites, of which past projects include easily updated stock listings, email newsletters with protected searchable archives, online surveys with instant details statistics and much more.
What does this mean for you? By producing a standard, semantically accurate page, our designs look great while being easily accessible by users with any age of computer, using any device such as a PDA or phone or even disabled visitors using screen readers or other, similar tools - plus, it should continue to look great for years to come!
Among the technologies we are proficient with are:
- (X)HTML 1.1
- CSS 2.1
- XML
- RSS
- PHP 5.0
- SQL databases such as MySQL 4 and PostgreSQL.
- AJAX technology, used to create quickly updating web sites such as Google Maps.
All our web sites, including both the front end (what the visitors see) and the back end (the scripting, database designing and administration pages) are custom made to each client's individual requirements and not built on mass-produced templates.
Rob Cunningham
Programming and web development have been a part of my life for nearly ten years and it's really hard to imagine what my life would be like without the web. I starting playing with HTML in the mid nineties, having done programming in languages like BASIC before. Since then I've branched into VisualBASIC and more technical languages like C/C++ before finding my calling with the web scripting language PHP and advanced web design with the then-new (X)HTML standard with CSS and the many possibilities that a combination of these technologies offer.
During my time in grammar school, I entered the Irish Science Olympiad (open to all school pupils in both The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland) in the programming contest held at DCU, Dublin, four times, with considerable success:
- 1999 - Under 17's Gold (1st in all of Ireland in category)
- 2000 - Overall Bronze (7th overall in Ireland)
- 2001 - Overall Silver (2nd overall in Ireland)
- 2002 - Overall Silver (2nd overall in Ireland)
In my last two years at the ISO, I qualified for the global International Olympiad in Informatics, and I represented Ireland in the Republic of Korea in 2002 and the USA in 2003 with some success.
Since leaving grammar school, I've worked my way through a university course in computing while developing my skills in development both on and off the web.
